McLaren GT: When Supercar DNA Learns Some Manners
Let’s talk about the McLaren GT and where it came from. McLaren’s story starts long before leather-lined cabins and luggage space were part of the conversation. Founded in 1963 by Bruce McLaren, the brand built its reputation on pure motorsport obsession. Formula 1 titles, Le Mans victories, and a relentless pursuit of speed defined the early years. Road cars came later. But when McLaren did enter the street, it did so with the same attitude — lightweight, fast, and unapologetically focused.
The 2022 McLaren GT, however, is what happens when that race-bred DNA decides to wear a tailored suit.
The Heart of the McLaren GT
At its heart, the GT is still unmistakably McLaren. Power comes from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. It produces 620 PS and 630 Nm of torque, sent to the rear wheels via a lightning-fast seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It sprints from 0–100 km/h in just over 3 seconds — more than enough to rearrange your internal organs, politely.
Where the GT separates itself from models like the 720S or Artura is in how it delivers that performance. The suspension is tuned for comfort over chaos. The steering is calmer, and the overall drive feels less like a qualifying lap and more like a fast-paced road trip — at very illegal speeds.

A Supercar That Actually Has Room For Your Stuff
One of the GT’s biggest party tricks is practicality — yes, practicality in a McLaren. Thanks to its rear luggage compartment and front boot, the GT offers around 570 litres of total storage. That is enough for weekend bags or a photographer’s gear. Finally, a McLaren that won’t judge you for packing light stands.
Add in softer leather, a quieter cabin, and better long-distance comfort. Suddenly this is a supercar you could daily — if your commute includes tunnels.
The Look of the McLaren GT
Visually, the GT trades some of the aggressive aero of its siblings for smoother, more elegant lines. It still looks exotic from every angle. But there is a maturity to it that suits golden-hour photography just as well as full-throttle action shots.
The Verdict
In short, the McLaren GT is for the enthusiast who loves speed but doesn’t want to arrive everywhere slightly deaf and emotionally exhausted. It’s still a McLaren — just one that understands you might like your coffee hot and your spine intact.
A supercar with manners. Bruce McLaren probably wouldn’t mind that at all.
